1. Agreement

These terms are between you and Immanuel Rajiv, trading as Way Studio, a sole trader in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). They govern your use of the Oath Android app and this website. By installing or using Oath you accept them. If you do not, do not use the app.

How we handle your data is set out separately in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

2. Who may use Oath

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract. You need a Google account to sign in, an Android device, and an internet connection for anything involving a partner.

Oath is built for adults. A Pact gives another person a say in when you get back into an app you have blocked, and an always-on block does not expire on its own. We have not built the parental consent and the safeguards that arrangement would need for under-18s, so we do not offer it to them.

3. What Oath does

Oath has three parts:

• Tracking: it measures your app usage on your device and shows you the figures.
• Focus: you can run a session, or schedule one, during which apps you have named are blocked.
• Pacts: you and one other person each agree to rules. If you break one of your own rules, the app you named is sealed. Your partner can grant you a key to reopen it. You can also spend one of a limited number of monthly hammers to release yourself, or wait the seal out.

Without a partner, Oath runs in Solo mode, where a broken rule starts a cool-down that lengthens each time you break the same rule again.

Sealing an app affects that app only. Your phone continues to work normally.

How a seal ends

You and your partner agree to follow the same rules, and neither of you sits above them. The only way to use a sealed app for longer than your rules allow is to ask your partner for a key. They may attach a time limit when they grant it, which can make the release shorter, but never longer than the rule's own deadline.

If they cannot get to their phone, or it is an emergency, you have a monthly allowance of hammers that lifts the block without them. A hammer lifts the block until the rule next comes back around; it does not delete the rule.

Some rules also release on their own: a time-window rule ends when its window ends, and a daily limit resets with the day. An always-on block does not expire by itself.

4. Permissions you grant

Oath needs two Android permissions to do its job, and asks for each one explicitly:

• Usage Access, to measure your app usage.
• Accessibility Service, to detect which app has come to the foreground so it can show a blocking screen. Oath does not read or transmit your screen contents. See section 4 of the Privacy Policy.

You may withdraw either permission at any time in Android Settings. Oath will stop blocking if you do.

5. Safety, and the limits of what Oath promises

Blocking depends on Android, on your device manufacturer, and on the Accessibility Service continuing to run. Some manufacturers stop background services to save battery, which can stop blocking without warning. A determined person can also uninstall Oath or disable the permission. We make no promise that a block will always hold.

You can always leave. Either partner may dissolve a Pact alone, at any time, without the other's agreement. Blocks lift immediately and the Pact is archived. Your partner is told that you dissolved it, but they cannot prevent it. We designed it this way on purpose: an app that blocks a phone must never let one person trap another inside it. There will never be a restriction on dissolving a Pact.

6. Your partner, and how you treat them

A Pact is symmetric. Each of you holds the other's key, and neither of you can edit an agreed rule without the other approving the change.

You are responsible for who you invite. Choose someone you trust. When you agree to a Pact you accept that your partner may decline to grant you a key, and that they will see the rules, the shared breach history, and any note you send with a key request.

Do not use Oath to coerce, harass, or control another person, and do not invite someone who has not freely agreed to take part. We may end your access if you do.

7. Subscriptions and payment

Tracking, analytics, and focus sessions are free. Pacts and Lockdown require a subscription.

• Price: £6.99 per month, or £39.99 per year.
• A 14-day free trial applies on first install. No card is required to start it.
• One subscription covers two people. The person who creates a Pact is the payer, and their partner is covered by it at no cost.

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Google Play, not by us. The price and currency displayed in Google Play at the moment you subscribe is the price that applies, including any local tax. If the price shown in Google Play differs from the figure above, the Google Play price governs your purchase.

Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time in the Google Play Store under Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; your access continues until the end of the period you have paid for. Refunds are handled under Google Play's refund policy, since Google is the seller. We can raise a refund request with Google on your behalf but cannot issue one directly.

If a subscription lapses, an active Pact is paused rather than deleted. You and your partner keep your history, and the Pact can be revived by whichever of you resubscribes.

We may change our prices. A change never affects a subscription period you have already paid for, and Google will notify you before a renewal at a new price.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to modify, reverse engineer, or tamper with the app or its communications with our servers; not to forge subscription entitlements or another person's identity; not to create records on behalf of an account that is not yours; and not to use Oath to break the law or to harm another person.

We check that requests come from a genuine, unmodified copy of the app. Tampered clients are refused.

9. Your content

Rule names, notes, and the other text you write remain yours. You grant us the limited permission needed to store that content and show it to your Pact partner, which is the whole point of a shared Pact. We do not use your content for anything else.

The Oath name, logo, design, and software are ours and remain ours.

10. Availability

Oath is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error free, that notifications will always arrive on time, or that it will work on every device or Android version. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features. If we discontinue the service entirely, we will give reasonable notice.

11. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.

Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of profit, data, or opportunity, or for any consequence of a block failing to apply, applying when you did not expect it, or a notification not arriving. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

12. Ending your use

You may stop using Oath at any time by dissolving your Pacts, cancelling any subscription in Google Play, and uninstalling the app. To remove your account and the data attached to it, see Deleting your account.

We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms, in particular section 6 or section 8.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows the last change. Where a change materially affects your rights we will tell you in the app before it takes effect, and continuing to use Oath after that means you accept the new terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of your home country.
